Lafayette is home base for us. We are on Carnaby Drive, and most of the houses we work on are a short drive from the shop. After 25 years working Acadiana homes, we know the local building stock well, from the older places in the Saint Streets and Freetown to the newer construction out toward River Ranch and Sugar Mill Pond.

Older Lafayette homes come with their own list. Foundations that have shifted on our clay soil, kitchens and baths that were laid out for a different era, wiring and plumbing that need to come up to current code during a remodel. Newer homes have different needs, usually additions and updates as families grow. We handle both.

The Lafayette clay is worth calling out. It swells when it is wet and shrinks in a dry stretch, and that movement is behind a lot of the foundation cracks and uneven slabs we get called about. When we pour concrete or set an addition foundation, the base prep and drainage do most of the work of keeping it stable. We plan for the soil instead of fighting it later.
